ASSESSING THE IMPACT OF PROCUREMENT ROUTE AND PROJECT MANAGEMENT ON THE DELIVERY OF ROAD PROJECTS IN NIGERIA
Abstract
The need for an efficient procurement and project management systems in Nigeria remains integral to the delivery of construction projects especially the road project which has necessitated various researches into the need to have road projects delivered on time, cost and quality. This study thus, assessed the impact of procurement and project management on the delivery of road projects in Nigeria with focus on the North-Central region. The specific objectives include - To examine the impact of different procurement routes on the delivery of road projects in Nigeria; To determine the extent to which project management influences effective delivery of road projects in Nigeria. 229 questionnaires were distributed to the appropriate construction professional as respondents for this study of which 213 were properly filled and returned representing a response rate of about 93 percent. The method analysis involved mean, frequency, percentage of descriptive statistics while multiple linear regression is the inferential statistics applied. The outcome shows that the R Square of .781 which represent that the Project Delivery Factors (PDF) are explained by the 78 percent of the Project Management Influence (PMiE) and Impact of Different Procurement Routes (IdPR) factors with a regression line of PDF = 3.673 + .140(IdPR) + 2.60(PMiE). This study concluded that both PMiE and IdPR are positive predictive factors and both significantly affect road project delivery. This study recommended that construction organizations must exhibit flexibility in procurement techniques and approaches, incorporating quality dispute resolution and adaptable financial structures to enhance their performance in procurement.
